NOTED AUTHOR AND RADIO PRODUCER TO SPEAK AT AWARDS EVENT
Kansas City, 9/13/07 -- David Barsamian, Author of Targeting Iran and producer of “Alternative Radio” which airs Wednesday mornings on Kansas City’s community radio station, KKFI-FM 90.1, will speak at an awards ceremony honoring individuals in the media who have provided outstanding service to their communities.
Friends of Community Radio, a Kansas City not-for-profit group which is an educational group with a goal of educating citizens about the media, will be presenting its 2007 Media Excellence awards at the Bragg Auditorium of the All-Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 4501 Walnut Street in Kansas City, Missouri at 7:00 PM.
This year’s awards will go to Lewis Diuguid of the Kansas City Star, for his outstanding efforts in promoting diversity and philanthropic efforts in our local community; and to Brice Phillips a community radio hero from Bay St. Louis in Hancock County, Mississippi. Mr. Phillips’ station WQRZ-LP was the only communications link to the outside world after Hurricane Katrina devastated the western Mississippi coast. Brice was recently featured on Bill Moyers Journal.
The event will be a benefit for community media, will encourage citizen participation in media, and will show importance of media to our democracy.
Admission at the door will be $10 for the general public, and $5 for students with IDs. A reception with Mr. Barsamian will be held at 6:00 PM with a fee of $25.
